You know it’s going to be an awesome engagement session when they’re willing to drive 30 minutes (and then some ;)) across town; when they request chickens, but are equally as excited over baby lambs (even if those stinking cute lambs are way too skittish to let us get near them); you want to own every outfit she brought; when they’re overjoyed at your mother-in-laws ratty but amazing vintage quilt; when they bring samples from their cake testing; when the sun sets before your ready. JJ & Julie I am SO looking forward to March with you, Thanks for the adventurous afternoon together.

It was my first session of the new year. I should have been excited, pumped, ready. Instead I spent the morning at the doctor with my youngest son who had almost bit through his bottom lip.
I was tired, cranky, not 100%. I thought about calling and asking to reschedule. But I was replaying our conversation, arranging all the details of our session. How excited she was. How her husband had the day off. How 4 was her lucky number. We were scheduled for the 4th. To commemorate her 4th child. I couldn’t break her heart. I sucked it up. And showed up.

And I’m so thankful I did. It was awesome. This family geared me up for this year. Revived something in me. Reminded me why it is that I do this. Because I love documenting families. I love capturing moments in the lives of families that pass all to quickly. I love witnessing a fathers love for his family; for his wife. I love seeing boys be boys. Sticks and dirt and running non-stop. I’d be lying if I didn’t want to go home and have a couple more babies 😉

So you guys, Thank you! Truly, I could not have started my year with anyone better.

  • Alex Brandon - My sister’s kind of a fox. These pictures are wonderful.ReplyCancel

  • Autumn - Why did I just cry through this… so beautiful. And you better believe I totally lost it when I got to #4 being a girl. I am so predictable and such a mess.ReplyCancel

  • Candice - I look at this post EVERY. DAY. Love.ReplyCancel

Lauren contacted me on Facebook. Did I remember her from long ago? We used to know each other, through various avenues. But it was so long ago.
Did I remember her?

YES.

With boys as cute as these, and a husband as sweet as John, how could I forget?

I was so completely ecstatic to shoot this family session. We plotted and planned and texted and became best friends ( right ?! 😉
Oh how I loved this cold, overcast night with this uber amazing family. The only downside? It ended too soon.
